[English] Difference Between Baggage and Luggage

This article on Merriam Webster sheds some light on the origin and usage in respect of these two words.

We can conclude that:
1. In reference to one's property or belongings, the two words have equal meanings.
Note that Americans tend to prefer 'baggage' over 'luggage'.

2. 'Baggage' can be used figuratively, such as 'emotional baggage' or 'political baggage', while 'luggage' does not have such usage.

Additionally, the word 'suitcase', unlike 'luggage' and ‘baggage’, is countable and indicates particularly a large case with a handle.
