By chance I bumped into a site called
Progress with Lawless French and I find it totally AWESOME! If I remember it right, Laura is the author of the French section on About.com. Now, partnering with Kwiziq, she has produced a self-paced dashboard for every French learner, just like those in MOOCs.
First and foremost, set up an account with or without your Google account. Then the browser will redirect you to a page that tests your French ability in 77 multi-level questions. Results will be sorted out in CEFR standard, and your competence in each stage with be shown in graphs. You may revise mistakes from the test with the answer key and clear explanations shown at the bottom of the page. It's also fine if you want to do that later, since all test results with be saved to your dashboard.
A free account permits a user to take 10 tests each month (for more information, check out
this page that tells details about PwLF). The application will offer lessons pinpointing your weakness according to the previous test under the 'Lessons Chosen for You to Study' column. Each lesson consists a few example sentences, brief explanations, remarks on common mistakes for English speakers, a Q&A section, and occasionally a video. Thanks to Google Listen, example sentences in each lesson are also available in audio, although sometimes pronounced in strange accentuation.
And this thing pretty much goes together with a flashcard site which I recently found called
Quizlet. I haven't tried it yet, but in my knowledge it allows users to create their own set of flashcards (sharable) with audio and during revision, it could be scattered around just like real cards to reinforce memory. Way to go!
